About Zuma's Rescue Ranch

The Mission:

To rescue cast off horses and pair them with troubled children and families. Together, with the help of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, we will teach both horse and child how to live, love and trust again.

Horses sense the needs within children and provide and unconditional acceptance.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapies open the locked doors of human minds.

Once the door has been unlocked the healing can begin.

Two souls reaching out to one and other.

Zuma's Rescue Ranch supports foster children and rescued horses
so that they can help one another heal the wounds in their hearts and minds.

At the Ranch, horses who were destined for slaughter are rescued, rehabilitated, and trained,
so that they can help children, who have been similarly discarded by our failing system,
in equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions.

Zuma's is an approved 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Your donations are tax-deductible.
Please support these children and horses.
 Lives are not disposable.

Volunteering Opportunities

We run our operation with a skeleton crew, but for its many cherished volunteers. Volunteers are the back bone of any non-profit organization. Especially any program that involves animals. Those programs never rest, there are no days off or closed signs when caring for heartbeats.

The volunteer opportunities at the ranch are fun, outdoor learning experiences, a chance to get out of the office, out of the house and into the outdoors. Most of our volunteers would rather clean a barn than their own homes, and for that we love them.

The Ranch has no pre-qualifications to become part of our volunteer family, just a love for children or horses and the outdoors. You need not have horse experience, we can help you learn to care for them, a lesson well worth learning.

We are always looking for the following:

Early morning feeding crew (7:30 am)
Late morning pasture and stall cleaners (9-10 am)
Lunch time feeding crew (12-1 pm)
Early evening feeding crew (4-5 pm)
Early evening pasture and stall cleaning crew (3-5 pm)

Any time of day for the following;  horse groomers, riders, mane pullers, body clippers.

Electricians, plumbers, framers, handy men, excavators, roofers. Always needed for projects.

We are always looking for groups that need work days, we have the work and need the help.

Please contact our volunteer coordinator for opportunities. 303-346-7493

How to Help

I am personally involved with Zuma's Rescue Ranch, and stand behind their mission to rescue horses headed for slaughter. The horses participate in therapy sessions for neglected and abused foster children.

Please join me in supporting Zuma's - on facebook, through a small (or large!) donation, taking lessons, or volunteering your time and talent.

Mentors Needed - 2.5hrs per week for 6 weeks... can you help a child in need?

Have you ever thought about sharing the blessings you received from your family with a child that has no family? Zuma’s has a need for mentors for our upcoming six-week Experiential Learning Program.

The program will be guiding At Risk Youth in many of the skills a child needs and usually gets from his or her family. Currently in our society, children removed from their homes have no one in which they can confide, Zuma’s mentors fill that role as well as providing a positive example of basic social skills. All of this structure is provided through guided activities designed by our team of counselors.

Do you have 2.5 hours a week to dedicate to a child that is at risk of not completing his or her education due to behavioral issues? If you answered yes to this question, please contact Jodi at 303-346-7493 to sign up for our January six-week mentoring program. If you don’t have the time….Possibly you can sponsor 0ne of these kids for only $220.00 you will be providing 15 hours of experiential learning to an at risk youth, that is less than $18.00 an hour for this wonderful program involving counselors, assessors, mentors and equine therapy partners!

Zuma’s Experiential Learning Program will perform an initial intake assessment derived from input from primary care provider and school staff. This assessment will identify the specific needs for a child; an individual behavioral plan will then be prepared. The therapist and the mentor will work together for the six weeks to improve the issues the child is displaying. Upon completion of the program an exit assessment will measure the results of the programs objectives. Based on the results, a future treatment plan will be provided for the child’s ongoing growth.

Please consider giving what you may have received in your childhood to these at risk youth so desperate for a chance to succeed in our very competitive world.
