Horseback Riding Lesson

Halter Club is a progressive program which focuses on the practical skills and knowledge necessary for riders to earn Level 1 certification through the CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association). Students entering this program can demonstrate basic control of their horse at the walk. Young equestrians will learn to properly groom and tack their assigned mounts, and will each take part in a group riding lesson. After mastering independent steering and control at the walk (while maintaining proper riding position), riders will turn their attention to the trot. This program aims for students to attain safe control of their horse at the trot through basic ring figures.

Saddle Club takes riders who have demonstrated consistent control at the walk and trot to the next level. Students will be concentrating on the practical skills and knowledge necessary for the rider to earn Level 2 certification through CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association). Riders entering this program who have not taken the Level 1 riding exam must receive permission from an instructor, either as an existing student, or after riding in an assessment lesson.

Bridle Club takes students who have demonstrated consistent control at the walk, trot, and canter to the next level. Riders concentrate on the practical skills and knowledge necessary to earn Level 3 certification through the CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association). Students entering this program who have not passed the Level 2 riding exam must receive permission from an instructor, either as an existing student, or after riding in an assessment lesson. Students will develop their jumping position and body control through weekly group riding lessons. After mastering cross-rail jumps at the trot, while maintaining proper riding position, students will work to attain control of their horse at the canter through jumping courses.*

At the culmination of each program, students will have the opportunity to take a written and practical test, the latter of which will be ridden in front of a CHA-certified judge.

*Safety is our priority, the lesson objectives of the riding program are dependent upon the demonstrated progress of the students; advancement through these objectives is at the sole discretion of the instructor.

• A New Rider Assessment is required for placement ($145).

• Each YRClub session combines unmounted education and a group riding lesson. We progress through the Certified Horsemanship Manuals and riders are offered the opportunity to take written and riding tests up to three times per year to pass into the next YRClub level.
• DERS Progressive Youth Riding Clubs meet 4 times per calendar month. In the event that a month has an additional week, that session is pro-rated.
• YRClub riders require a CHA Level Manual (available in the office or pre-purchase through our online store $29.95).
